Hero/Hack: James Carville

James Carville is my Hero for this week! For those of you scratching your heads, here is some background: Hero/Hack is something my AP Government teacher had our class do every Friday. We defined Hero as someone who acted not out of personal interest, but for honorable ideological reasoning, or just because they thought it was the right thing to do. A Hack would be the complete opposite, doing something purely to grandstand or for personal gain (see Cindy Sheehan).

James Carville is my hero for this week because of what he said at Northwestern University this week:
In addition to breaking away from a laundry list of special interests, Carville said, Democrats need to learn that a candidate who can’t campaign can’t succeed.

“If you’re not competent in campaigns, you don’t have a chance to be competent in government,” he said.

Using Al Gore as an example, Carville said being a smart candidate is not enough.

“It’s actually possible to be wise, right and strong,” he said.
Carville was invited by the College Democrats at NU, and it took courage to be able to point out failures in the group that invites you to campus. He also happens to be right. It doesn't matter that Carville and I stand toe to toe against each other, this is good advice, but it will probably fall on deaf ears (fortunately for us conservatives).

Hero/Hack will be a regular feature from now on.
