The Defeaticratic Party

Mark Steyn, writing in today's Chicago Sun-Times lays out all the ways the Democrats have gotten it wrong about Iraq, labelling them the "Defeaticrats." But most importantly, at least to me, he points out how that party has become so enamored of the far-left, MoveOn.org crowd that they are ignoring the principled members like Joe Lieberman, who, next to Zell Miller, is probably the only Democrat I would consider casting a vote for (H/T Civitatensis):
Sen. Joe Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut, came out with a big statement on Iraq last week. Did you hear about it? Probably not. Everyone was still raving about his Democrat colleague, Rep. Jack Murtha, whose carefully nuanced position on Iraq is: We're all doomed unless we pull out by next Tuesday! (I quote from memory.)
In fact, this was honestly the first time I'd heard about Lieberman's big statement.
Here's why. His big piece on Iraq was headlined "Our Troops Must Stay."

Gasp!
And who wants to hear that? Not the media and certainly not Lieberman's colleagues in the Defeaticrat Party. It must be awful lonely being Joe Lieberman in the Democratic Party these days. Every time he switches on the news there's John Kerry sonorously droning out his latest pretzel of a position...

The latter being exactly why Lieberman would have been a much better candidate than Kerry. Even on matters about which I disagree with Lieberman, he is solid and not prone to saying things like, "I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it." He would've just voted one way or the other.
Right now, the Democrats are doing themselves a disservice by ignoring and drowning out, with the screeds of men like John Murtha, the voices of men like Joe Lieberman in their party and robbing the American people of honest choices in elections.
Read the entire column. It's a great read.
