2006 Watch: Domestic or Foreign?
Here is how I see 2006 right now:
Between Jack Abramoff, an ineffective Bush administration, and a stuttering Congress, the Democrats have the advantage on 'domestic issues.'
However, pro-war Republicans have the advantage when it comes to foreign policy, as Iraq news is heading in the positive direction, and the average American sees the NSA "scandal," as 'not a big deal.'
If Democrats can up with a coheasive strategy, they will do very well in 2006 as it looks now. This however, is a huge unknown, as the Democrats have not been coheasive in Congress since at least 1994, and probably earlier.
The other big unknown is the economy. If it keeps heading in the right direction, this will be an advantage to the Republicans (same applies here for low gas prices). If it stumbles, the Democras gain a huge advantage. It is too early to call anything right now, but that is how I see it.
