New Starbucks Coffee

So today was the launch of the Starbucks "Pike Place" blend. They gave away samples around lunchtime (12 EDT), but I was in class, so I went on over this afternoon to try the new blend for myself.

Since a venti coffee is my most common choice for Starbucks fare, I was curious what to expect. After adding sugar and a drop of cream (I use maybe one of those little creamers you get at diners for a whole venti coffee) like usual, I waited for my hot brew to cool off some.

My initial thoughts? An excellent, smooth blend with a slightly nutty taste to it. And perhaps most surprisingly, none of that burnt, over-brewed taste I'm now too accustomed too! I would describe this blend, which supposedly has origins at Starbucks' original storefront in the Pike Place market in Seattle (and was in fact exclusive there until today), as an excellent plain cup of coffee. No frills. Just good damn coffee.

Well done.

Also, I like the brown cups, but I imagine it will prove to be a pain for the baristas to remember to use different color cups for different drinks.
